Installing a New Gravity Concentrator at Clogau

Installation is now underway at Clogau for the newly arrived iCON centrifugal gravity concentrator, a compact enhanced-gravity unit designed to strengthen the plant’s gravity recovery stage. The iCON line was developed from the same centrifugal concentration approach associated with Falcon equipment, and is widely used where operators want to recover fine heavy minerals efficiently without introducing chemical reagents at this stage of the flowsheet.

Technically, the unit works by feeding slurry into a rapidly spinning bowl that generates a centrifugal field of around 120-150 G. Under those forces, denser particles are retained in the bowl’s riffled zone while lighter material is displaced outward and exits the unit. The concentrate is then discharged in a short rinse cycle, typically 60-90 seconds, which allows the machine to produce a much smaller, higher-grade heavy mineral stream for further treatment. That combination of high gravity, short rinse time and batch operation is one of the reasons centrifugal concentrators have become a standard tool in fine gold recovery circuits.

A few details make this particular model notable. It is designed as a relatively simple, field-serviceable unit with only one moving part, a compact footprint and a reputation for quick clean-out and straightforward installation. It is also capable of recovering very fine gold, down to around 400 mesh (37 microns), which is significant in any circuit where fine heavy mineral recovery matters.

For Clogau, the value of the new unit is not just mechanical. A stronger gravity stage can improve how heavy mineral material is captured, concentrated and examined, giving the plant greater flexibility while also adding to metallurgical understanding of how the valuable fraction behaves through the process. In other words, it is both a practical plant upgrade and a useful technical tool.
