May Event Roundup: Critical Minerals, Battery Supply Chains and Industrial Policy

Over the past month, George Frangeskides, Executive Chairman, and Dr Curtis Rooks, Principal Geologist, have attended a number of key events and conferences, notably the Oxford Battery Metals Conference, the EIT Raw Materials Summit in Brussels and the APPG critical minerals event in Westminster.

A few themes have stood out:

• Battery manufacturing is increasingly being treated as strategic infrastructure, with Agratas, Tata Group’s battery business, developing its Somerset gigafactory with UK Government support linked to industrial energy costs.

• Energy pricing remains a key factor in where midstream processing and battery material facilities can realistically be located.

• The European EV and battery market is becoming more selective, with some OEM commitments being reassessed and greater focus on demand, cost discipline and routes to market.

• In the US, recent reporting on BMO analysis highlighted around US$18.6 billion of committed and potential government support for critical minerals, particularly focused on rare earths and graphite.

• US-listed vehicles and SPACs are also showing interest in critical minerals opportunities aligned with US supply chain priorities.

These themes are directly relevant to Arkadian, and also to Arkadian’s investee company GreenRoc Strategic Materials Plc.

Motzfeldt provides exposure to rare earth elements, niobium, tantalum and zirconium in southern Greenland. GreenRoc’s Amitsoq graphite & anode materials project is also closely aligned with the European battery material supply chain.

The focus across the sector is moving beyond resource size alone, towards processing pathways, credible partners and realistic development plans.
