On the ground with TheiaX

TheiaX is Arkadian’s specialist contractor for the field spectral surveying and photogrammetry work at Motzfeldt. These techniques examine how rocks reflect light and use photographs to build terrain models, helping geologists interpret the areas surveyed.

During Motzfeldt’s successful 2026 field programme, TheiaX collected spectrometer data at 198 points across 40 locations at Aries. These measurements are intended to identify spectral responses associated with neodymium, a rare earth element, and provide ground reference data for calibrating and interpreting the satellite dataset.

At Merino and Voskop, the team used tripod-mounted hyperspectral cameras to scan exposed rock. The scanning locations were selected using assay results and geological observations from previous field seasons, allowing the new survey work to build directly on earlier exploration.

Photogrammetry adds the physical setting. Photographs collected across Aries, Merino and Voskop are used to build models of the terrain. Following correction and processing, the field spectral information will be projected onto these models, allowing the team to examine the responses alongside the rock formations they came from.

The aim is to map neodymium-related spectral responses and use their geological context to refine targets for further investigation. Technical interpretation will determine how the findings inform the next work programme.

The separate satellite acquisition programme remains in progress. The field and satellite datasets will be integrated once the remaining acquisition and processing work has been completed.

TheiaX’s successful field programme has supplied the ground measurements and imagery that connect this remote-sensing work to Motzfeldt’s geology. That gives Arkadian a stronger technical basis for assessing targets and deciding where further investigation should focus.
