How the environmental data will be used

BioApp’s completed environmental baseline studies have supplied new evidence for Motzfeldt’s infrastructure planning, allowing environmental conditions to be considered while development options are still being assessed.
BioApp, Arkadian’s Danish environmental consultants, surveyed key potential infrastructure sites identified through the continuing review by engineering consultancy NIRAS. This connects the fieldwork directly to the locations being considered in the project’s development planning.
For a potential infrastructure site, engineering requirements need to be considered alongside the existing environment. The surveys recorded indicator flora and fauna and established baseline conditions, giving the review information about the locations under consideration. Those records provide a reference against which the potential effects of future development can be assessed.
Collecting this information early allows environmental considerations to inform the assessment of infrastructure options as they develop. It brings evidence from the field into the same planning process that is examining the project’s engineering requirements.
The baseline work will also contribute to the evidence required for a future exploitation licence application. The application remains a future step, with the completed studies providing part of the environmental evidence to support it.
Motzfeldt’s successful field programme has therefore strengthened the basis for development planning, giving Arkadian environmental information to use in the infrastructure review and subsequent assessment work
