A new peer-reviewed paper led by Dr Curtis Rooks, titled “Rare Earth and Niobium Mobility at the Magmatic-Hydrothermal Transition: Motzfeldt Sø Center, Greenland”, has been accepted by Ore Geology Reviews.

The study explains how rare earths, niobium, and tantalum move during the late stages of magma cooling. Using pyrochlore as a tracer mineral, the research shows how these elements can be partially dissolved and re-deposited by hot fluids, forming new minerals such as columbite (Nb) and bastnaesite (REE) in hydrothermal veins.

This directly supports Alba’s model for Motzfeldt: the REE–Nb–Zr mineralised structures at Merino likely formed from the same hydrothermal event, acting as pathways where enriched fluids escaped the roof zone.

A strong scientific backing like this reinforces the geological foundations of our exploration strategy at Motzfeldt.
